Law and Order Debuts

On this day in 1990, Law & Order debuted on TV. To celebrate, here's a list of detective mysteries!


Body Bags by Christopher Golden. Jenna's starting her freshman year of college, and an internship at the medical examiner's office. When people start going violently insane, the ME and Jenna discover brains ravaged by insects-- and must find the culprits before their own brains are infected. The first in Body of Evidence series, follow it with Thief of Hearts.

The Girl Is Murder by Kathryn Miller Haines. In 1942, Iris's Pop returns home from the war without a leg. He doesn't want her to, but she's determined to help him in his work as a private eye, especially when his latest case involves one of her classmates. Follow it with The Girl Is Trouble.

A Spy in the House by Y. S. Lee. Sentenced to hang at the age of 12, Mary is rescued by Miss Scrimshaw's school for girls. Upon graduation, she's recruited into their secret-- a spy ring made of women, because in Victorian London, a woman who knows her place is in the perfect place to learn everything. The first in a series, follow it with The Body at the Tower.


I Hunt Killers by Barry Lyga. by Barry Lyga. When bodies start showing up in town, it's all too familiar to Jazz-- his father is a notorious serial killer and made sure to teach Jazz the tricks of the trade. Knowing how these things work from the other side, Jazz uses his knowledge to help track down the new killer, and to prove it isn't him. Follow it with Game.

Dead Is the New Black by Marlene Perez. Daisy's the only one in her family without a psychic gift, and therefore the only one not allowed to help solve paranormal mysteries. But when girls are getting attacked and she thinks her ex-best friend is behind it, she's on it-- even if she has to join the cheerleading squad. The first in a series, follow it with Dead Is So Last Year.

The Deadly Sister by Eliot Schrefer. When Maya's tutor ends up dead, she's the prime suspect, and disappears. Her sister Abby knows she's innocent, but the cops and her parents disagree. Can she prove them wrong?


The Death by Bikini Mysteries by Linda Gerber. Aphra lives on a lush island resort and is very attracted to one of their guests. But then a body turns up, and when Aphra investigates, she finds that her new boy's family isn't what they seem. This volume contains all the books in the Death By... series.

Down the Rabbit Hole by Peter Abrahams. Ingrid idolizes Sherlock Holmes-- something that comes in handy when she gets involved in a murder investigation. But on top of school, soccer practice, and playing the lead in a community theater production, can she solve the murder, too? The first Echo Falls Mystery, follow it with Behind the Curtain.

Christopher Killer by Alane Ferguson. Cameryn's father is the Medical Examiner and she's his assistant, but her first body is her best friend, and the fourth victim of a serial killer. Can Cameryn and her father find him before he finds them? The first in a series, follow it with Angel of Death.
